Mary Mae & Edward had a brief affair until Edward was shipped overseas but they wrote to each other. Mary Mae wrote him a letter telling him she was pregnant but that she would raise his child on her own. She named the child Bradley. She later married Dan Ward in 1946 and they relocated to Port Charles with her family. Years later the story came out about Edward being Bradley's father.
